The Honest Truth About FordSync4 Reviews: What Changed, What We Fixed, and What You Should Know Before Buying
We Had Real Early Growing Pains
The Ford Sync 4 retrofit category was still new when we entered the market. We were not simply selling a screen. We were trying to make newer Ford Sync 4 hardware work correctly in older F-150, F-250, F-350, Expedition, and Maverick vehicles that were never originally designed for it.
That meant solving problems across the APIM, HVAC module, camera system, ACM radio module, FordPass, vehicle configuration, wiring harnesses, and different Ford model years.
From around October 2024 through August 2025, we had a difficult period with inventory and supply chain delays. Some orders took much longer than expected. In some cases, parts shipped separately. Some customers had to wait for missing trim pieces, modules, or follow-up support. We understand why that caused frustration.
We do not want to hide that history. We learned from it.
Today, our shipping process is much more stable. Most current orders ship within about 7–14 days depending on model and configuration. F-150 kits are generally faster. Super Duty and more customized configurations may take longer, but the long delays from the early launch period are no longer the normal experience.
Our Support Is Real, But We Are a Small Technical Team
Another common concern was communication. Some customers called and could not reach us immediately. Others expected instant phone support during installation.
Our phone numbers are U.S. local numbers, but our technical team works across U.S. and Hong Kong time zones. That allows us to support customers across different hours, but it also means we cannot always answer every phone call immediately.
The fastest and most reliable way to reach us is still email. Our average response time is about 12 hours, and we aim to answer support emails within 24 hours.
Phone and SMS are available, and the 7–11 AM EST window is usually the best time to reach us quickly. But email always reaches the team, even when the phone is not staffed.
We know this is different from a large call center. We are a specialized engineering and support team, not a generic electronics reseller. That means our answers come from people who actually understand the product, but it also means we may not respond instantly every minute of the day.
About the APIM: OEM Does Not Always Mean Brand New
One of the biggest misunderstandings online is about the APIM module.
Ford does not sell Sync 4 APIM modules and related retrofit parts in large quantities as normal aftermarket upgrade parts. Because of that, nearly every company in this industry uses OEM Ford modules sourced from existing vehicles, take-off parts, dealer channels, or Ford supply chains.
This is not unique to FordSync4. This is how the Sync 4 retrofit market works.
The important question is not whether the APIM came from an existing Ford vehicle. The important questions are:
-
Was it inspected?
-
Was it reconditioned?
-
Was it updated to compatible software?
-
Was it programmed for the customer’s VIN and vehicle configuration?
-
Was it tested before shipping?
-
Is it backed by a warranty?
-
Is replacement support available if something fails?
Our APIM modules are OEM Ford modules. They are professionally reconditioned, updated, programmed, and bench-tested before shipment. Every kit includes a 1-year warranty, and we keep enough replacement inventory to support warranty exchanges when needed.
We do not call these modules “brand new from Ford” because that would not be honest. They are OEM Ford modules prepared for retrofit use.
Why We Removed the Old 8-Inch APIM Option
Some early kits tried to keep the customer’s original 8-inch APIM and pair it with a larger screen setup. That approach helped lower cost, but it was not the best long-term solution.
Because of compatibility differences, keeping the old 8-inch APIM could create limitations or stability issues depending on the vehicle, software version, and customer expectations.
We no longer recommend that solution.
Our current recommended kits use the correct Sync 4 APIM, screen, HVAC module, wiring, programming, and configuration needed for a complete upgrade. This is more expensive than a partial screen-only approach, but it is the right way to build a stable OEM-style Sync 4 retrofit.
The Fix Kit Is Not a Profit Product
Some customers have asked why our Fix Kit is listed for $1.
The answer is simple: our store system does not allow us to list it at $0. The $1 price is not a profit strategy. It is just the lowest price our platform allows.
The Fix Kit exists because we solved issues that affected some earlier customers. Instead of telling those customers “not supported” or walking away, we created a low-cost way to help them update their older kits.
For eligible FordSync4 customers, the basic Fix Kit is $1 plus shipping. Standard shipping is normally $39. Faster shipping options may cost more, but those are optional.
We do not sell the basic Fix Kit as a standalone profit product to the public. It is mainly for our existing customers who purchased earlier kits and need the updated fix.
Some new optional features are different. For example, added features such as turn-signal camera support or advanced camera functions may require additional hardware or software work. Those features were not included in every older purchase, so they may be offered as paid options. We try to make this clear: the basic fix is to support existing customers; new added features may be optional upgrades.
What We Have Solved
Our goal has never been to sell the cheapest screen. Our goal is to make the retrofit work like an OEM-style upgrade.
Over the last few years, we have spent a lot of time testing real trucks and solving problems that many other kits simply leave unsupported.
Depending on vehicle model and configuration, our current kits can support or restore many functions that were common pain points in early Sync 4 conversions:
-
Factory-style 12-inch Sync 4 screen upgrade
-
Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
-
Proper HVAC integration
-
Dual-zone climate behavior
-
Heated and cooled seat control support
-
Heated mirrors and rear defrost support
-
F-250 / Super Duty rapid-heat supplemental heater support
-
Camera zoom and camera selection
-
F-250 multi-camera functions
-
Camera-in-motion
-
Turn-signal camera options
-
F-150 Raptor drive mode support
-
Radio preset support
-
Auto Start/Stop button behavior
-
Airbag warning light compatibility
-
HVAC module programming
-
FordPass behavior after master reset
Not every function applies to every vehicle. Ford model years and trim levels vary a lot, so compatibility always depends on the exact truck. But the current FordSync4 kits are very different from the early test-stage kits that created many old online complaints.
FordPass: What Makes Our Solution Different
FordPass is one of the most important features for many Ford owners. Remote start, lock/unlock, fuel level, and vehicle status are features people use every day.
Many Sync 4 retrofit solutions can make FordPass work at first, but there is a common hidden problem: after a Sync 4 master reset, FordPass may need to be activated again. On many retrofit kits, the customer may have to reinstall the old Sync 3 system just to activate FordPass again. It means you have to take apart your dash again and again to keep FordPass work.
Our solution is different.
With our kit, FordPass needs to be activated once during installation. After that, a master reset does not require the customer to remove the new Sync 4 system and reinstall the old Sync 3 hardware just to activate FordPass again.
That is a major difference for long-term ownership.
SiriusXM: The One Limitation We Still Say Clearly
We believe customers should know the limits before they buy.
SiriusXM depends heavily on the ACM radio module. Newer X40 ACM systems can support SiriusXM with Sync 4. Older pre-X40 ACM trucks are different.
For older ACM vehicles, including many 2015–2018 F-150 and 2017–2020 F-250 / F-350 trucks, factory SiriusXM is still not fully solved without changing the ACM. Some sellers solve this by selling customers a newer X40 ACM, which can add $500 or more to the total cost.
We are still working on a better solution.
Our goal is to make pre-X40 ACM systems compatible with Sync 4 so customers do not have to buy a newer ACM just to keep SiriusXM. This has been a long research project for us, and we do not want to promise it before it is fully ready.
So here is the honest answer: X40 SiriusXM support works. Pre-X40 SiriusXM compatibility is still under development.
If SiriusXM is a must-have feature for your older truck, contact us before ordering so we can confirm your exact configuration.
Is FORScan Required?
For most current kits, the APIM is pre-programmed for the customer’s VIN and vehicle configuration before shipping. That means many customers can install the kit without using FORScan.
However, Ford trucks are extremely configurable. Some owners have added options, changed modules, upgraded clusters, changed ACMs, modified HVAC systems, added cameras, or changed other factory settings. In those cases, additional programming may be needed.
We publish programming information in our Help Center so customers can understand what is being changed. We also provide useful FORScan information that many sellers charge extra for.
Our position is simple: we try to make the kit as plug-and-play as possible, but we are honest that certain vehicles or modified configurations may still need programming support.
Why Some Online Reviews Do Not Tell the Whole Story
Online comments are useful, but they do not always include the full context.
A complaint may come from:
-
An early 2024/2025 kit
-
A delayed order during the supply chain shortage
-
A second-hand kit bought from someone else
-
A truck with non-original modules
-
A customer mixing parts from different sources
-
An older 8-inch APIM solution that we no longer sell
-
A vehicle that needed additional programming
-
A feature that was not supported at the time but has since been fixed
That does not mean the customer’s frustration was fake. If someone had a bad experience, we understand why they were upset. But it does mean that old comments may not represent the product we ship today.
The correct question is not “Did FordSync4 ever have early problems?”
The correct question is: “What is the current kit, what has been fixed, and what support exists today?”

What You Should Ask Before Buying Any Sync 4 Upgrade Kit
Before buying any Ford Sync 4 upgrade kit, from any seller, ask these questions:
-
Is the APIM programmed to my VIN before shipping?
-
Is the APIM OEM Ford hardware?
-
Is it tested before shipment?
-
What warranty is included?
-
Is the HVAC module properly integrated?
-
Will the passenger temperature control work?
-
Will radio presets work?
-
Will FordPass survive a master reset?
-
Does SiriusXM work with my exact ACM?
-
Is FORScan required?
-
Are installation guides and programming support available?
-
What happens if a module fails?
A good seller should be able to answer these clearly before you buy.
Final Word
FordSync4 is not perfect, and we will not pretend our early launch period was perfect.
We had delays. We had support pressure. We had features that took longer to solve than expected. Some customers from the early period had a frustrating experience, and we understand that.
But the product we ship today is not the same early kit people complained about in 2024 or early 2025.
We kept testing. We kept fixing. We kept updating. We built Fix Kits for earlier customers. We improved shipping. We removed the old 8-inch APIM option. We expanded support documentation. We continue working on hard problems like pre-X40 SiriusXM instead of simply telling customers to buy more expensive modules.
If you are considering a Ford Sync 3 to Sync 4 upgrade, we invite you to read our Help Center, check the compatibility notes, and contact us with your VIN and exact vehicle configuration before ordering.
We would rather answer the hard questions before you buy than surprise you after installation.
That is how a real OEM-style retrofit should work.
